Ok, this week was pretty mid!!! I’m fighting a gross flu or something at the moment so we haven’t done much and I’m blaming me struggling typing this on “brain fog” (not a real thing). But we did go to Montreal last weekend so that was chill. It was a beautiful 18º with winds that made it feel like -10º and I highly recommend NOT going in the winter. Alright, I keep having coughing fits so let’s wrap this up quickly so I can lay on the couch in my blanket.
🇨🇦 Montréal - Canada’s bizarre. Everything felt like a bizzaro world where everything is low stakes and nothing matters??
Montréal especially because it feels like if you draw a European city from memory. We were only there for three days but these were my favorite things we did:
The SSENSE Store - OMG this was so much fun. It’s a “concept” store so there’s not really general browsing for the public. The entire store is 6 stories and there are little islands scattered throughout of what I’m assuming are popular items but in order to get in you have to add a bunch of stuff to your wishlist online and they pull everything for you from their warehouse. It’s a whole experience. The Canadian dollar is worth less than the US dollar so we had no choice but to go ham 😔. Almost all of the clothes in my wardrobe put form over function and are completely impractical for day-to-day use but it was so fucking cold there that I FINALLY caved and got a Northface jacket. And to counter buying something that’s functional I had to get these shoes to balance everything out.
Marché Underground - A massive two-level vintage market that if I had more space in our luggage I would have gone home with a bunch of goodies 😔.
Osmo x Marusan - Ok, I know I have a tendency to be dramatic but I swear I’m not being dramatic when I say this was the best matcha and sandwich I’ve ever had in my entire life. I got the tamago (egg) sandwich, a bowl of miso, and a matcha latte and I haven’t stopped thinking about it ever since 😔.
Alex and I were just talking about how we would go back to Montréal just to eat here again.
Canadiens game - I can’t think of anything more Canadian than going to a Canadiens game and eating poutine which is what we did.
Everyone in Canada felt like people in a simulation but especially everyone at the arena. You cannot convince me that Canada and everyone that lives there is real.
🏔️🏔️ Angelo Badalamenti - Another devastating loss!!!
An absolute icon, legend, and his music will always be the moment. I’ve probably listened to this soundtrack a thousand times and it’s perfect for the rainy overcast weather today (and every day tbh).
💂 Alterior toque - I picked up this toque for Alex before our trip to Canada and it came tf thru. I’m over beanies and am always looking for cool and interesting hats to wear and this one’s perfect for the winter. The checkered ones are cool too. Also, they’re a Canadian brand! :)
🚣♂️ Boat Songs from MJ Lenderman - I saw a Tiktoker who has similar music taste to me name this as her album of the year so I gave it a listen and it’s pretty mid… but it’s only 30 minutes and I’ve thrown it on a handful of times this week to pass the time so I guess I like it. I’ve also been listening to Pinegrove all week??? Send me music recs because I’m regressing.
🧥 A Kind of Guise - This is a German brand that was just recently put on my radar and I’m obsessed. I need them to put a location in the US. They have men’s and women’s clothes but their men’s is better. I can really respect when a brand has small collections where each piece in the collection is intentional. This blazer, shirt, coat, and this belt from their winter collection are all so good but idk if I can pull the trigger paying full price. Also, I don’t know if this is necessarily a tip or trick but I always sign up for newsletters for sales and discount codes and I think you should too.
And finally, this -
It’s our last weekend with Gena so we’ll probably go out and about this weekend. We haven’t eaten out since Montréal and my body is going through withdrawals. I need a burger, french fries, and escargot ASAP. Also, I waited until the last minute to do Christmas shopping so I’ll be running around all weekend when I should be snug as a bug in a rug 😔.
I have mad senioritis thinking about next week and having to WORK before the holidays. I’ve been on vacation mode since Halloween and I just need that week of the city being empty to recharge me.
Alright,
bye.
